Like most agriculturally dependent industries in south-eastern Australia, PHPM has not been immune from the drought, with extended dry and frosty conditions impacting adversely on its cereal hay suppliers. Consequently oaten hay for export has been difficult to obtain in the face of limited supply and keen competition from the domestic market. If there is any up side to the drought it has been in the form of wheaten hay, a "get out" optimum embraced by many growers whose grain crops were destined to fail. PHPM is currently exporting limited quantities of this product as a substitute alternative to the usual demand for oaten hay
